A commission to design a seat in response to the Oriental Room at Fenton House. Commissioned by Gitta Gschwendtner on behalf of the The National Trust. The exhibition, Please Sit, featured six designers, each allotted a room in this 17th-century merchant's house in Hampstead. The exhibition allows visitors to take a seat in an environment where you are not usually allowed to sit or touch anything.
My seat is designed as a response to a small glazed mahogany cabinet on the alcove wall housing forty four Chinese snuff bottles. The seat provides an enclosed and focused view of this tiny collection, whilst bathed in a flourescent yellow glow and sitting on an antique oriental carpet.
